30-40 percent votes were cast in the first phase of the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections. But the exact number will be known after some time.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal gave this information to reporters at the Agargaon election building at 5:15 pm on Wednesday (May 8).
He said that the first phase of the election was held today in 139 upazila parishads. According to the information we have received so far, the elections were free, fair, peaceful and well conducted. A few sporadic incidents have occurred. But they are very limited.
He also said that there have been irregularities in some places. That is why we have taken immediate action and suspended polling in two centres. The administration, law and order forces have been cautious enough in carrying out their duty in the election and they have done their duty professionally. That is why the law and order situation was quite good.
When asked about the percentage of votes cast in the first phase of the election, the CEC said, “I cannot say the exact percentage at the moment.” But it can be between 30 and 40 percent.
Earlier, polling ended at 4 pm. It is known that in this first phase election, voting was held in 22 of 139 upazilas by EVM and in the rest by ballot.
