India’s Lok Sabha election schedule has been announced. Elections for 543 constituencies will start from April 19. Voting in seven phases will continue till June 1. The result will be announced on June 4. Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar announced this on Saturday (March 16).
The first phase of this year’s Lok Sabha elections will be held on April 19, the second phase on April 26, the third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth phase on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25 and the seventh phase on June 1.
Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Ladakh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Paducherry, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Punjab , Telangana and Uttarakhand – these 22 states will go to polls in only one phase.
Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tripura and Manipur – these 4 states will vote in two phases. Elections in Chhattisgarh and Assam will be held in three phases.
Elections will be held in four phases in the three states of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Elections will be held in five phases in Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir. Elections will be held in a maximum of seven phases in three states – West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
By-elections to 26 assembly constituencies in several states including Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu will also be held during that period.
The Chief Election Commissioner gave a strong message against spreading fake news on social media after the election date was announced. He said, political parties should ensure responsible behavior on social media.
