Kalboishakhi storm has swept over some districts of the country. 10 people died and at least 30 people were injured in five districts due to the storm. Hundreds of houses have been destroyed.

Two people died in Pirojpur, two in Patuakhali, two in Bhola, three in Jhalkathi and one in Bagerhat in the morning and afternoon of Kalboishakhi storm on Sunday (April 7).

Pirojpur

Around 10:30 in the morning, hundreds of houses in Pirojpur Municipality and Sadar Upazila were destroyed by a sudden gale. At that time, a woman was crushed by a tree and an old man died due to being blown away by the storm. At least 13 people were injured.

15 minutes of gale force winds over the district. The electricity connection of the entire district has been disconnected. Hundreds of trees were uprooted, hundreds of houses were damaged and almost all roads in the municipality were cut off.

A sudden storm started around noon in Manpura and Lalmohan in Bhola. More than two hundred houses and trees were damaged. At that time, one person died after being buried in his house. Besides, one person died due to lightning.

Bhola District Commissioner Arifuzzaman said that the victim’s family will be given 25 thousand in cash and 50 thousand in cash. Besides, immediate allocation of 16 tons of rice has been given in three affected upazilas.

Patuakhali

A teenager named Ratul (14) and an old woman named Sufia Begum (85) were killed in the Kalboishakhi storm at Baufal in Patuakhali.

Ratul’s house is in Kathi village of Roy Tanter of Nazirpur union of upazila. Father’s name is Zaheer Sikder. He was found dead on the road. It is believed that he died due to lightning. And Sufia Begum’s house is in Charalgi village of Dashpara union of upazila. Her husband’s name is late Ahmed Pada. A tree fell on the house and he was killed. In addition, the storm has caused extensive damage in the upazila.

Bagerhat

One person was killed and 10 injured after a tree was uprooted in Bagerhat. At least one and a half hundred houses have been damaged by the storm that lasted from 9:40 am to 10:15 am.

Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat. Khalid Hossain said that one person was killed by lightning in Kachua Upazila. Several houses were damaged in the sudden storm. Trees are uprooted.

Jhalakathi

In two upazilas of Jhalkathi, two women and a girl were killed by lightning while bringing cows to the field during the Kalbaisakhi storm. The incident took place at Shekerhat of Sadar Upazila, Ponabalia Union and Aurabuniya Union of Kanthalia Upazila around 11:00 am.
