A festival for all in the country

Bangladesh is celebrating the Bengali New Year today. However, once this festival was celebrated at home and in business organizations, In the house, people washed everything of their daily using household crockeries and washable furniture, and most farmers, fishermen, and boat washed their farming equipment, nets, and boats.

On the other hand, business people used to call it Halkhatha that day. This Halkhatha is now a Bengali word but may have originated from a central Asian word. In this Business, men collect their due money, or their customers use it to pay their debt on that day.

For this reason, people in Business arrange food for their customers, and most of them arrange to have sweets in their shop on this occasion. Some renowned shop owners gave one full of mud pot sweets to their customers’ families. We can see this culture still in West Bengal.

But in Bangladesh, the Bengali New Year is a national festival. Not only the capital city of Dhaka, but many cities celebrate it by adding many new artistic things. Moreover, with t this festival, the people of Bangladesh have added not only the song and dance of the latest Bengali cultural human race creator, poet, and philosopher Rabindranath and his follower poet and another new cultural human race creator, Kazi Nazrul Islam; they also include with their program many folk dances and the natural poet and philosopher Lanon.
This new era of Bengali New Year started in Bangladesh, then in East Pakistan in the early sixties. Two liberals, modern and the flowers of Rabindranath, even built their thought process with the thinking of Rabindranath Tagore. Here, Rabindranath started all the festivals in Santinikaton based on season, not religion.

So, those two flowers of Rabindranath, Ohaidul Haque, and Sanzidia Khatun try to have at least one festival in that way. Rabindranath thought the festival must be for all people, not for a section or group. If any festival is on a religious base, it will be sectorial.

In Bangladesh, the Bengali New Year is a unique national festival. It transcends religious or influential group boundaries, welcoming participation from all citizens and truly embodying the spirit of unity in diversity.
