MV Abdullah: A Voyage from Captivity to Freedom The MV Abdullah, a Bangladeshi flag carrier, is set to make a triumphant return to Bangladesh in mid-May with all 23 crew members on board. This follows the ship’s recent release from Somali pirates. The vessel will first complete its cargo duties at Dubai’s Al Hamriya port.

Crew’s Health and Spirits High According to Mehrul Karim, CEO of Kabir Group, the crew is in good health and spirits. The team has unanimously decided to sail back to Bangladesh together after their ordeal. Their anticipated return is expected to be a significant event, marking their safe recovery and return.

Recent Developments and Future Plans After its release, the MV Abdullah docked at Al Hamriya port on April 21. Cargo unloading began promptly the next day, involving 55,000 tonnes of coal brought from Mozambique. This process is projected to take about five days, according to Karim.

Pirate Encounter and Ransom The ordeal began when the MV Abdullah was hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean on March 12 while en route from Mozambique to Dubai. Fortunately, after a ransom was paid, the ship was freed on April 14, allowing them to continue their journey to Dubai.
