The United States wants to improve the country’s labor rights

Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, said that the United States wants further development of Bangladesh’s labor rights to get duty-free benefits in the market.

He said, ‘Bangladesh has given an 11-point action plan demanding reform of labor laws. There has been talk about making trade unions easier. However, the consensus of the tripartite (owners, workers and government) committee is needed for the reform of this law.

He said these things after the meeting with the delegation of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) at the Secretariat on Sunday (April 21).

Tapan Kanti Ghosh, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, also said that the United States wants to export other products outside the garment industry. There has been talk of making it easier and cheaper for pharmaceutical companies to register. He requested that patent and copyright laws should be in Bengali as well as in English.

Incidentally, the meeting was led by Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce on behalf of Bangladesh and Brendan Lynch, Assistant for South and Central Asia Affairs on behalf of the United States (USTR). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Secretary Mohammad Naveed Shafiullah, att. Secretary Nusrat Jabin Banu, joint secretary Dr. Farhana Irish and related officials were present.
