24 upazilas will vote in EVMs tomorrow

Upazila Parishad second phase general election will be held tomorrow Tuesday. Polling is scheduled to be held simultaneously in 157 upazilas across the country from 8 am to 4 pm. Out of these 24 upazilas will be polled through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

On Monday (May 20), the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat has sent a letter to the concerned parties confirming the matter.

The letter signed by Sarwar Hossain said that the general election of 157 upazila parishads will be held tomorrow on May 21 in the second phase. Out of these 24 Upazila Parishad general elections will be held through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). The operation of EVM machines in 24 upazilas will be managed from the ‘EVM Control Room’ of the election building.

The letter further states that the EVM Control Room will coordinate with the Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer, Regional Election Officer, District Election Officer, Upazila or Thana Election Officer, Presiding Officer, Mobile Technical Team and Polling Technical Team to ensure proper use of EVMs. will be done Therefore, 24 officers and employees at various levels have been assigned the responsibility of IDEA Project (Phase-II), NICS.

After two hours, the information of cast votes should be sent to Dhaka

It has been ordered to send election information to Dhaka after two hours in tomorrow’s general election. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Deputy Director of Electoral Training Institute, has written to the poll officials with this instruction.

It said that the Polling Officers (Presiding, Assistant Presiding and Polling Officers) shall send the information of votes cast by the polling station after two hours through mobile app or SMS.

Incidentally, a total of 1,824 people are contesting in the second phase of upazila elections. Among them, 603 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman, 693 for the post of vice chairman and 598 for the post of women vice chairman.

According to the Upazila Parishad Election Act, election campaigning ended at midnight yesterday (Sunday).
