5 killed in launch rope break at Sadarghat

Five people, including three members of the same family, were killed when the launch broke the rope at Sadarghat in the capital. 5 others were injured. They have been admitted to hospital.

The deceased are Ripon Howladar (38), Maisha (3), Mukta (23), Md. Belal (26) and Rabiul (19). Mukta, Maisha and Bellal belong to the same family.

This incident happened on Thursday (April 11) around 3:30 in the afternoon.

Joint Commissioner of Dhaka River Port Traffic Department Zainal Abedin confirmed the matter.

He said, two launches named MV Tashrif 4 and MV Pubali 1 were tied to the pontoon with ropes. While inserting another launch called Farhan through the middle of these two launches, MV Tasrif 4 launch rope was torn. The passengers were injured. The injured were taken to Mitford Hospital by ambulance from Sadarghat Fire Station. Later they died. An investigation committee will be constituted in this incident.

Members of the Naval Police Station and the Fire Service recovered the bodies and sent them to Mitford Mortuary.
