With a couple of weeks left to the end of the season, salt production this year has surpassed the 63-year-old record. So far production has been 22 lakh 39 thousand metric tons.

On Monday (April 29), the Deputy General Manager of Cox’s Bazar Salt Industry Development Office of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BCIC) said. Zafar Iqbal Bhuiyan confirmed this information.

The most 22 lakh 32 thousand 890 metric tons of salt was produced in the last year 2023.

According to Bisik sources, 38 thousand 970 tons of salt were produced in these eight zones – Dhaka, Narayanganj, Chittagong, Patia, Cox’s Bazar, Khulna, Jhalkathi and Chandpur – on Sunday. Production on the same day last year was 30 thousand 895 tons. The company expects to produce one lakh tons of salt this time. Mid-May is considered as the end of the current season.

President of Teknaf Upazila Salt Cultivators Welfare Association of Cox’s Bazar, Mohammad Shafiq Miah, said that salt production was not as good until half of January; But now more is happening. Because the drought is too much. Another 10 to 15 days of drought will increase salt production.

BCIC Cox’s Bazar Salt Industry Development Office Deputy General Manager Md. Zafar Iqbal Bhuiyan said, Dabdah throughout the season, cultivation of 68 thousand 357 acres with modern polythene technology and additional 1 thousand 933 acres of land with salt cultivation has set a new record in production.

It is known that 40 thousand 695 people have cultivated in eight salt zones of the country, which is 1 thousand 228 people more than last year’s 39 thousand 467 people. At the same time, the amount of salt arable land has also increased. This time cultivation has been done on 68 thousand 357 acres of land, which is 1 thousand 933 acres more than last time’s 66 thousand 424 acres.
