At least nine people, including six women, died in a bus fire in the northern Indian state of Haryana on Saturday (May 18). Police said that at least 15 people were burnt in this incident.

The bus, carrying Hindu pilgrims including women and children from the western state of Punjab, caught fire when it reached Taure in Nuh district on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway on its way back from a pilgrimage. There were 60 passengers in the bus, 9 of them died in the fire. 15 others were injured.

A police official said the injured have been admitted to a hospital and their condition is stable.
According to the police, the pilgrims had jointly hired a bus to visit Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. “The unfortunate bus suddenly caught fire while returning to Punjab,” the police official said, adding that the cause of the fire is being investigated.
