Italian businessmen are invited to invest in Bangladesh

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged Italian businessmen to invest in Bangladesh not only in the local market, but also to enter the entire South and Southeast Asian market.
On Sunday (May 12), the Prime Minister said that businessmen and investors can invest in special economic zones in Bangladesh while meeting Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro at Ganabhaban.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has a huge domestic market in addition to the South Asian and Southeast Asian markets. The Prime Minister said that Bangladesh has a golden opportunity to become a big central market around South and Southeast Asian markets. He said that after 2026, Bangladesh will step into the arena of developing countries.
In this regard, he sought the assistance of Southern Italy to continue the country’s GSP plus facility for the export of Bangladeshi products to European countries.
He emphasized on increasing the trade between the two countries and said that there is ample opportunity to increase trade between the two countries. He urged them to look for those opportunities and use them.

Regarding illegal immigrants in European countries including Italy, the Prime Minister said that the government is taking all measures to ensure that no one can enter a country illegally. The Prime Minister said that it is very sad that many people, including Bangladeshis, are dying while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to enter European countries.

He said that his government is taking maximum efforts to ensure that no one goes to any country illegally. He further said that for this purpose we are creating awareness among the people besides taking legal steps.
He requested Italy to take more Bangladeshi manpower through legal means. Sheikh Hasina through Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro invited the Italian Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh at her convenience.
The Italian ambassador said that his country wants to assist Bangladesh in technology transfer and defense procurement and modernization in various sectors. He expressed his country’s interest in providing a second satellite to Bangladesh.
He stressed on trade diversification to open trade opportunities between the two countries.
Discussing the Rohingya issue, both agreed on the dignified repatriation of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.
The Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Mohammad Salauddin was present at the time.
