In a significant move to advance medical research in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced a special stimulus package aimed at enhancing the nation’s health sector. The announcement was made during a ceremony where the Prime Minister distributed awards and research grants under the “Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship,” “National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship,” and provided special research donations to academicians and students across various universities.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of shifting focus towards medical research, urging physicians to minimize their engagement in private practices for the greater good of advancing medical science. Highlighting the current lag in medical research, Sheikh Hasina called on the medical community to prioritize research activities. She pointed out that the commitment to research could lead to better healthcare outcomes for the population.

Sheikh Hasina reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting research endeavors, drawing parallels with the country’s self-sufficiency in food production as a result of agricultural research. She stressed that research funding, sourced from the public, must be utilized for the public’s welfare.

Additionally, the Prime Minister touched upon the topic of nuclear energy, mentioning the ongoing construction of the Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant and plans for a second facility, underscoring the government’s long-term vision for energy sustainability.
