Bangabandhu University Hosts World Hypertension Day 2024 with Rally and Seminar

Bangabandhu University Highlights Hypertension Awareness

Today, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University held a rally and seminar to commemorate World Hypertension Day 2024. The Department of Cardiology organized the event, chaired by Professor Dr. Chowdhury Meshkat Ahmed.

Keynote Addresses by Distinguished Guests

The seminar featured the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Din Mohammad Nurul Haque, as the chief guest. Dr. ABM Abdullah, the personal physician to the Prime Minister, and Professor Dr. Sajal Krishna Banerjee from UGC also delivered speeches.

Emphasizing Nationwide Awareness

In his keynote address, Professor Dr. Din Mohammad Nurul Haque stressed the importance of spreading hypertension awareness beyond the capital, reaching every part of the country. He highlighted the need for dietary changes, stress reduction, regular exercise, proper sleep, and limiting salt intake. He warned against the misconception that hypertension and diabetes can be cured and emphasized the necessity of ongoing medication and management.

Speakers Address Hypertension Control

Speakers discussed effective methods for controlling hypertension, including avoiding excessive salt intake, limiting alcohol consumption, maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking, and eating more vegetables and fruits. They advised 6-8 hours of sleep daily, 30 minutes of walking, and regular medication for those with hypertension. Physical exercise was emphasized as crucial for maintaining good health.

Engaging Presentations

Professor Dr. Jahanara Arzu presented the keynote paper, with attendance from cardiology experts, students, and journalists.
