On 17 march 2024, tomorrow, President Mohammed Shahabuddin is set to offer his respects to the revered Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his resting place in Tungipara, situated in the Gopalganj district.

President Shahabuddin, in a ceremonial gesture of remembrance, will lay a wreath at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu, recognized as the most distinguished Bengali of all time, at 10:30 am on what would have been his 104th birthday. This tribute was confirmed today by Md Joynal Abedin, the President’s Press Secretary.

The country is poised to observe the 104th anniversary of the birth of its founding father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which will also coincide with “National Children’s Day-2024”.

Born on this day in 1920 in the village of Tungipara, then a part of the Gopalganj sub-division and now a district, Bangabandhu emerged as the leading figure in the fight for Bangladesh’s independence. He was the third child in a family of six, born to Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and Saira Khatun.

The day will be marked by a variety of celebratory events across the nation.

Following the wreath-laying ceremony, President Shahabuddin will observe a moment of silence in deep respect for Bangabandhu’s memory. This gesture will be accompanied by a ‘State Salute’ provided by units from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force, with the ceremonial playing of the last post.

Additionally, President Shahabuddin, accompanied by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family, will participate in a prayer session at the site.

The President is also scheduled to leave a message in the visitors’ book at the mausoleum.

The commemoration will continue into the afternoon with President Shahabuddin hosting a religious gathering and prayer session at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban, aimed at praying for the eternal peace of Bangabandhu and his family, who were tragically killed on August 15, 1975.

This prayer session will also seek blessings for the nation’s peace, prosperity, and the unity of Muslims worldwide.

The event will see the participation of the President’s family, government secretaries, and officials from both civil and military sectors, as well as Bangabhaban employees.
