The anti-quota protesting students have called for a morning-evening blockade program across the country on Wednesday as a one-point demand.

Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced this at a press conference in front of the central library of Dhaka University on Tuesday (July 9) around 6:30 pm.Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the movement, Hasnat Abdullah, Asif Mahmud and others were also present at this time.

He said, not four points, we have one demand now. That is – Parliament should pass a law by canceling the unreasonable and discriminatory quotas in all grades and bringing the quotas to the minimum level for the backward groups mentioned in the constitution.

Nahid Islam said, tomorrow as a program of our movement, the blockade program will be celebrated across the country from 10 am to sunset. This blockade will include roads and railways.

Addressing the students, he said, our representatives across the country will block important points in front of their respective educational institutions.

Hasnat Abdullah, another coordinator of the movement, said, “We are not opposing the quota.” We are agitating for minimum quota.

He also said that many people are discussing whether our movement is against the liberation war and freedom fighters. We make it clear that we have great respect for the liberation war and freedom fighters.

Regarding who the quota can be for, he said, the quota can be for children of disabled, minority ethnic groups and freedom fighters.
