Ozzy legend Ricky Ponting ended his 7-year relationship with Delhi Capitals a couple of months ago. It was during this time that the address of his new duty was known, again in the IPL. This time Ponting got the responsibility of the head coach of Punjab Kings.

The IPL franchise announced the appointment of Ponting as the head coach in a post on social media. Meanwhile, according to cricket analysis website ESPNcricinfo, Ponting’s contract with the team is for four years.

Ponting has been associated with the franchise since the inaugural season of the IPL (2008). In the first season he played for Kolkata Knight Riders. Later played Mumbai Indians till 2013. And the following year he joined the team’s coaching panel, as an advisor. He was the head coach of Mumbai in 2016 and 2017 seasons. From there, he came to Delhi as a coach in 2018. He stayed there until the last 2024 season. However, Ponting was dismissed as the team performed as expected.

Meanwhile, Punjab’s situation in IPL is also uncertain. Ponting joined as the third coach in the last four seasons. In this year’s season, Punjab was eliminated in the first round from ninth in the points table. Now they will see new possibilities by holding the hand of Ponting.
