Key Insights from GM Quader’s Address on Economic Strain

In his speech at the Community Center of Pallabi Ward No. 2, organized by the Jatiya Party’s Dhaka North City branch, GM Quader provided a stark overview of the economic challenges gripping the nation. “During this holy month of Ramadan, the people of our country are not doing well. The cost of living has become untenable for many, with prices of essentials increasing weekly,” said Quader. His comments underscore the urgent need for solutions to counter the escalating costs that are putting basic necessities out of reach for the majority.

A Closer Look at the Economic Disparity

Quader pointed out that about 90% of the population is grappling with food insecurity, forced to survive on less than a full meal a day. This situation is contrasted sharply by a minority enjoying a life of luxury, often at the expense of the nation’s economy. “While a select few bask in opulence, the majority suffer in silence. This dichotomy is further widened by the unchecked embezzlement of thousands of crores of Taka by individuals close to the government,” he added, highlighting the corruption exacerbating the economic divide.

The Impact of Factory Closures and Dollar Crisis

The opposition leader also touched upon the adverse effects of factory shutdowns and the ongoing dollar crisis, which have compounded the economic woes of Bangladesh. The lack of raw materials and financial instability has led to increased unemployment and further economic downturn. “Our country’s manufacturing base is eroding, and the economic crisis deepens with each passing day, contrary to the government’s portrayal of a thriving economy,” GM Quader remarked.
