The police have arrested 5 students in connection with the murder of a young man named Tofazzal Hossain (30) on suspicion of being a thief in Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University (DU).

They are – Fazlul Haque Hall branch, former Deputy Science and Technology Secretary of Chhatra League and student of Physics Department. Jalal Mia (25), student of Soil Water and Environment Department Suman Mia (21), Institute of Nutrition and Food Science. Mottakin Sakin, Ahsan Ullah (24) of Mathematics and Al Hussain Sajjad of Geography.

On Thursday (September 19), DMP Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest.

He said, 5 students of Dhaka University have been arrested in Tofazzal Hossain’s murder. They will be handed over to the court by applying for remand.

Earlier, Mohammad Amanullah, supervisor of the university’s estate office, filed a case in this incident.

In the statement of the case, Mohammad Amanullah mentioned that on September 18 at 8:30 a.m., a young man was roaming suspiciously at the gate of Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University. At that time, some students of the university arrested him and first took him to the guest room of the main building of Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall. They slapped and slapped the young man on the charge of stealing a mobile phone. During interrogation, the young man said his name was Tofazzal. Later he realized that he was mentally ill and took him to the canteen of the hall and fed him. He was then taken to the guest room in the south building of the hall, tied his hands to the window and beaten by some rowdy students with stumps, hockey sticks and sticks, and he fell unconscious.

Eyewitnesses of the incident of torture said that Tofajjal was brutally tortured and the torturers removed the flesh from his body. Tofazzal’s house is in Kanthaltali Union of Patharghata Upazila of Barguna.
