Bangladesh has entered the field to play two friendly matches in FIFA’s September window. Bangladesh beat Bhutan 1-0 in the first match of the series today (Thursday). Sheikh Morsalin scored the only winning goal in five minutes of the match.
Bangladesh last played a match in Thimpu, Bhutan in 2016. They lost that match 3–1 in the Asian Cup qualifying play-offs. Playing in Bhutan again after eight years, Bangladesh was chasing that nightmare. The memory of that loss has faded a bit with today’s win.

Bangladesh started with a win in the two match series but did not play very good football. Being out of competitive football for three months, the performance of the Bangladesh footballers was quite average. The winning goal also came fortunately. Forward Morsalin took advantage of the mistakes of the Bhutanese goalkeeper. But in the whole match, Bangladesh could not attack so much as to score a goal. The number of shots on target was very low.
There was not much edge in the game of the host Bhutan. Bangladesh sent the ball into the net once in the second half but it was ruled out due to handball. Bhutanese football player gets a yellow card for touching his hand. Later they could not break the defense of Bangladesh. As a result, the football match was completely messed up due to the poor performance of the two teams.
The next match of the two-match series is on September 8. Morsalin told the goal of winning that match, ‘Of course our target was to win match by match. It will be the same in the second match. If you can work according to the plan, the result will be good.” If not, we have to go through changes.
