Dol Purnima or Holi festival is one of the religious festivals of Sanatana religionists today. In Bangladesh this festival is also known as ‘Dol Yatra’, ‘Dol Purnima’.

On the occasion of Dola Yatra and Gaur Purnima, Hindus organized various religious programs including puja, home yajna, distribution of prasad in various temples across the country including the capital Dhaka.

Dol Utsav and Kirtan have been organized at Dhakeshwari National Temple under the initiative of Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee.

Dola Yatra is a Hindu Vaishnava festival. According to Vaishnava belief, on this day Lord Krishna played Abir with Radhika and her friends in Vrindavan. It is from that incident that the game of swing originated. Because of this, on the day of Dola Yatra, the believers of this belief painted the idols of Radha-Krishna and went out for Nagar Kirtan. At this time they enjoy playing with colors.
In many parts of the world, the festival is better known as Krishna’s Dola Yatra, but in places like West Bengal, Madras, Orissa in India, it is known as Dola Utsav and in North, West and Central India and Nepal as ‘Holi’. In some places this festival is also called Basant Utsav. Radha-Krishnadol festival was celebrated by sprinkling flower pollen. In the evolution of time, ‘Abir’ has come in place of Pushparenu.

This festival will continue from morning till afternoon across the country. Hindus celebrate this festival by smearing each other with Abir.
