In the second phase of the sixth upazila parishad election, the polling of 161 parishads will be held on May 21.
After the 30th commission meeting, Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam.
He said that the commission had already announced the date of the four phases of the Sixth Upazila Parishad election. The schedule for the first phase has already been given.
“Today in the 30th meeting, the schedule of the second phase was discussed.”
According to the second phase schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers is April 21. Nomination papers will be selected on April 23.
Appeals against selection of nominations can be made from 24 to 26 April. The appeal will be disposed of from 27 to 29 April. Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is 29th April.
Symbols will be allocated in this phase on May 2. And voting will be on 21 May.
In the second phase, nine out of 161 upazilas will vote in electronic voting machines or EVMs.
He also said that additional district commissioners will be appointed as returning officers and upazila executive officers as assistant returning officers. Where the number of voters is more than five lakh, more than one Assistant Returning Officer will be appointed. Promotion period will be 19 days.
Earlier EC announced the first phase schedule. 152 Upazila Parishad elections will be held in the first phase on May 8.
The last date for submission of nomination papers for the first phase is April 15. Selection of nomination papers on April 17. Appeal against Returning Officer’s decision from 18 to 20 April.
The appeal will be disposed of on April 21. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 22 April. Allotment of symbols will be on April 23 and voting will be held on May 8.
Upazila Election Officers have been appointed as District Election Officers and Assistant Returning Officers in the elections.
Appeals against the decision of the Returning Officer will be disposed of by the Deputy Commissioner.
The next two phases of the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections will be held on May 29 and June 5. The total number of upazilas in the country is 495.
