TPW Dersk:  Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has reported that the average life expectancy and birth rate in Bangladesh have decreased in a span of one year.

This information has been specified in the report titled ‘Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics-2023’ of BBS.

According to the report, the average life expectancy of people has decreased to 72.3 years in 2023, which was 72.4 years in 2022.

A common scenerio of the capital city

Apart from this, the population growth rate has also decreased in a gap of one year. The general population growth rate in 2023 was 1.33 percent. Earlier in 2022 it was 1.40 percent.

According to the BBS survey, among the top 10 causes of death, the first is heart attack at 1.027 percent and the second one is cerebral hemorrhage at 0.64 percent.

The average age at first marriage is 24.2 years for men and 18.4 years for women.

In terms of internal migration, the rural arrival rate is 20.4 persons per thousand and the urban arrival rate is 43.4 persons.

A good number of people are unemployed

In addition, the number of young people not in education, work or training fell to 39.88 percent in 2023, from 40.67 percent in 2022.

In 2023, the number of mobile phone users above 5 years of age has increased to 59.9 percent. But in the case of those over 15 years of age, this rate has slightly increased to 74.2 percent compared to 73.8 percent in 2022.

In 2023, 50.1 percent of Internet users are over 15 years old.

The obesity mortality rate in 2023 was 6.1 per thousand, higher than 5.8 percent in 2022. The under-five mortality rate is 33 per thousand and the maternal mortality rate is 136 per 100,000 live births, compared to 153 in 2022.

The number of birth control users declined slightly to 62.1 percent in 2023, from 63.3 percent in 2022. Unmet demand for birth control fell to 15.57 percent in 2023, from 16.62 percent in 2022.

Household size was unchanged at 4.2 percent in 2023 as in 2022. However, compared to 2022, the rate of female household heads has increased in 2023.

In 2022, it was 17.4 percent, which increased to 18.9 percent in 2023. On the other hand, in 2022, male head of the family was 82.6 percent, in 2023 this rate decreased to 81.17 percent.
