Kuwait, an oil-rich country in the Gulf region of the Middle East, has discovered another major oil field. Sheikh Nawaf Saud Nasir of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), the government company that explores, extracts and markets the country’s fuel oil, confirmed this information in a video message on Sunday.
Sheikh Nawaf said in the social video message that the discovery of this mine was found on Failaka Island in Kuwait in the Persian Gulf region. The 96 square kilometer mine is estimated to contain at least 320 million barrels (one barrel = 159 liters) of oil.

He also said in the video message that the new mine has oil reserves more than three times the total petroleum production of Kuwait in a year from the current mines.
KPC later said in a statement that the new mine has 2100 million barrels of petroleum and 510 million cubic feet of fuel gas, according to preliminary findings. The total amount of mineral oil combined with these two fuels is estimated at 320 million barrels.

Incidentally, the two other oil-rich countries in the Gulf region, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have recently taken various steps to reduce their dependence on oil, but Kuwait’s economy is still completely dependent on petroleum. It is estimated that 4 percent of the world’s total oil reserves are in this country with an area of 17 thousand 818 km.
According to OPEC Plus, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, Kuwait is currently the world’s third-largest oil supplier, producing 104 million barrels of oil each year.
