LPG Prices Rise in Bangladesh: New Rates Effective Immediately

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced an increase in the cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), affecting households and businesses starting from 6:00 pm today. The new price for LPG has been set at Tk 123.52 per kilogram, marking a rise of Tk 0.66 from the earlier rate of Tk 122.86. Consequently, the cost for a 12kg LPG cylinder has now reached Tk 1,482, showing an increase from Tk 1,474.

This adjustment in pricing extends across a variety of LPG cylinder sizes, from 5.5kg to 45kg, aiming to uniformly distribute the price change among different user groups. Additionally, the cost for “auto gas,” utilized predominantly in vehicles, has been slightly raised to Tk 68.05 per litre from Tk 67.68.

It’s important to note that the prices offered by the state-operated LP Gas Company will not undergo any change due to its limited market share, under five percent, and its reliance on locally produced LPG.

The revision in LPG pricing is a direct consequence of the heightened expenses in the global market, particularly following the uptick in the Saudi CP (contract price), which is a critical pricing benchmark for the local entities importing LPG, mainly from Middle Eastern countries. This change signifies a modest increase in the cost of living and operational costs for the general populace and businesses alike.
