Pirated ship MV Abdullah

TPW Desk:

Pirates bring dumbas and goats for the sailors of the Bangladeshi ship MV Abdullah, held hostage off the coast of Somalia.

Based on information of the hostage sailors, the owner of the ship and the sailors’ organization Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers Association confirmed this information to the media.

As a result, sailors are not so worried about food at this moment, but they are somewhat worried about the reduction of clean drinking water.

Earlier on December 5, 2010, a ship owned by the same group, MV Jahan Mani, was taken hostage by Somali pirates. At that time the sailors were rescued after 100 days. The sailors on that ship said that when the ship ran out of food, the pirates would bring them two dumbas (sheep) every week.

Earlier on March 12, MV Abdullah was captured by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean on its way to the United Arab Emirates with 55,000 tons of coal from Mozambique. Pirates take control of the ship and take all 23 sailors hostage. The sailors are all Bangladeshis.

The owner of the ship informed last Wednesday that the pirates were contacted for the first time by a third party.
