In a heartfelt message during a celebration at Tungipara, Gopalganj, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called on parents and guardians to establish a friendly rapport with their children. This advice comes as part of her strategy to shield the youth from dangers such as terrorism, drugs, and corruption. Emphasizing the importance of imbuing children with honesty from an early age, the Prime Minister made these remarks at an event marking the 104th birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also celebrated as National Children Day 2024.

Highlighting the role of extracurricular activities, Sheikh Hasina advocated for children’s engagement in sports, arts, music, and religious studies to ensure a well-rounded education. She underscored the necessity of nurturing human values and talents without the undue pressure of academics alone.

In line with the vision for a Digital Bangladesh, the Prime Minister spoke on the educational benefits of digital devices, enabling children to explore the world and become ‘smart citizens’ in a ‘Smart Bangladesh’. This year’s theme, “Bringing smiles to every home by realizing Bangabandhu’s dream,” reflects the ongoing commitment to this vision.

The event saw participation from State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Simeen Hussain (Rimi), among other dignitaries, and included performances, a documentary screening on Bangabandhu and children’s rights, and prize distribution for various competitions. Additionally, 104 underprivileged students were granted financial support, celebrating the spirit of Bangabandhu’s birthday and National Children’s Day.
