Qatar Amir arrives tomorrow on two-day visit

Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is coming to Bangladesh on a two-day state visit tomorrow.

President’s Press Secretary Md. Zainal Abedin told BSS today that the Emir of Qatar is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport tomorrow at 5 pm in a special plane.

On the invitation of President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Emir of Qatar is coming on this visit on April 22 and 23. President Md. Sahabuddin will welcome him at the airport.

This is the first high-level state visit from any Middle Eastern country since the formation of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s  government in January 2024. The Emir of Qatar will stay at the La Meridien hotel with his entourage.

On the morning of April 23, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud will pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Qatar.

Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will first have a private meeting with the Emir of Qatar and later a formal bilateral meeting at the Ganabhaban.

President Md. Sahabuddin will host a courtesy lunch for Emir of Qatar at Bangabhaban.

Six agreements and five memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed between the two countries during his visit.

These are agreements related to avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion, cooperation in legal matters, maritime transport, development and protection of mutual investment between the two countries, transfer of nationals of the two countries and establishment of joint business council.

Apart from this, five memorandums of understanding are to be signed, including an agreement on labor force, an agreement on higher education and scientific research and an agreement on cooperation in diplomatic training. He will leave Dhaka by special flight that evening.
