In Ruma Upazila of Bandarban, an armed terrorist group of 100 people robbed the vault of Sonali Bank and looted all the money. Meanwhile, the terrorists also kidnapped the manager of the bank, Mohammad Nizam Uddin.

This incident happened on Tuesday (April 2) around 9 pm. Ruma upazila executive officer (Acting UNO) confirmed the matter. Didarul Alam However, he could not tell anything about how much money was looted.

Eyewitnesses said that the armed terrorist group first surrounded the upazila parishad area and took away the mobile phones and money of all the Muslims of the mosque and held them hostage. Then he fired blanks with weapons and spread panic. At that time 8 Ansar members engaged in the security of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer were beaten and took away all their weapons. Along with that, they took away the weapons belonging to the policemen engaged in security work.

Those concerned said that at the beginning of the month, a lot of money was deposited in the bank to pay the salaries of the upazila officials. The terrorists looted about 2 to 2.5 million rupees.

Superintendent of Police Saikat Shaheen said that a terrorist group attacked the bank and looted money and weapons. However, he did not give details about how much money was looted and which terrorist group.

Locals said that the electricity system was off in Ruma Upazila during the incident. And at that time the police and employees engaged in security work of the bank were busy in prayer. At this time, an armed terrorist group of about 100 people from Bathel Para area of Upazila Sadar attacked Sonali Bank next to Upazila Complex and looted weapons and money. At that time, the terrorists beat those who were in that area. Terrorists did not snatch money and mobile from them. Upazila Complex and Sonali Bank are about two kilometers from Ruma Upazila Bazaar. Locals believe that terrorists have taken this opportunity due to lack of security system there.

Locals believe that the Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) may have done the incident. However, before this, there was a rumor in the area that this organization would rob a bank. Meanwhile, after this incident, there is fear and anxiety among the people in the area. Security has been beefed up in the area.

The army has already arrived at the scene. Law enforcement forces are patrolling the entire area. After the incident, additional security has been ensured in all banks in 7 upazilas of Bandarban.
