The first SSC exam will be held in 2026 under the new curriculum. For more than a century, the SSC examination has been held in the month of February. In light of the new curriculum, the exam will be held in December from 2026.

In the new curriculum, the SSC exam will be conducted only on the basis of class 10 textbooks. There weightage is 65 percent in written assessment and 35 percent in activity based assessment. The entire exam will be of 5 hours duration. The examination procedure has been almost finalized by fixing these rules. According to sources of the Ministry of Education, it will be finalized by May 31. However, the final decision has not yet been made whether the name of the exam will be SSC or some other name.

According to sources concerned, the high-level committee comprising the new curriculum has finalized the evaluation system for the new curriculum. There, the annual and half-yearly (semi-annual) evaluation process of the school is defined in seven stages or scales. SSC has brought several changes in the exam. Instead of February, the exam will be held in December. The Ministry of Education has called a meeting to finalize everything and complete the process within this month.

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Professor Farhadul Islam said that several new decisions are going to be made regarding the SSC examination. There may be changes in some other matters along with increase in exam time. Everyone will be informed after everything is finalized in another meeting.

He said that a workshop has been organized on the next 27th to fix the evaluation guidelines. From there the evaluation system in the new curriculum can be finalised.

Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar said that if students take the SSC exam at the end of the year without taking the SSC exam at the beginning of the year, the students will be able to fully utilize the academic year. Considering these aspects, it is recommended to take the SSC exam in December instead of February. But it is still not final. It can be said after the final meeting this month.

SSC exam will be 5 hours

Earlier, the recommendation of the evaluation committee said that the SSC examination of 2026 will be held in the light of the new curriculum. Students will be evaluated on a total of 10 subjects in this public examination. It will also have a written test. Students will have to stay in the examination center for 5 hours including a break for the evaluation of each subject. Students will take part in the assessment at separate centers as at present.

And SSC exam will be only on 10th class subject. In other words, although earlier the exam was conducted on these two classes, ninth-tenth, in the new curriculum, the exam will be conducted only on the books of class 10. Students will study total 10 subjects in this class. The subjects are – Bengali, English, Mathematics, Science, History and Social Science, Digital Technology, Life and Livelihood, Religious Education, Health Protection, Arts and Culture.

A resource pool (expert team) consisting of 600 subject-wise teachers will be formed for the overall organization of SSC examination. First, they will be given a seven-day training under the supervision of NCTB experts organized by the board. A total of 44 teachers, four for each subject, will be finalized for each of the 11 education boards.
