The doors of 7 flyovers built in the Airport-Gazipur section under the Roads and Public Roads Directorate (SOAZ) section of the bus rapid transit project to alleviate traffic congestion in the capital are opening tomorrow Sunday. As a result, the traffic congestion on this road will be reduced and the suffering of the common people will be reduced.

It has been informed that the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Obaidul Quader will inaugurate this section.

Sheikh Walid Faiz, senior information officer of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, said this information through a circular on Saturday (March 23).

He said that the 7 flyovers built under the Sauz section of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT, Airport-Gazipur) project will be opened for traffic on Sunday. Minister of Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Obaidul Quader will join Dhaka side virtually as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony.

Note that in 2011, the Asian Development Bank conducted a preliminary feasibility study of the project. On December 1, 2012, ECNEC BRT project was approved. In the beginning, the cost is estimated at 2 thousand 39 crore 84 lakh 89 thousand taka. The work was supposed to be completed in December 2016. It was then extended several times to December 2023.

Initially, the length of this project was from Chandna Chowrasta to Keraniganj in Dhaka, but later the project cost was increased by increasing the time. Along with this project, the distance from Chandna Chowrasta to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was reduced instead of Keraniganj.

Initially, the project was supposed to be completed within four years to alleviate the suffering of the people connecting Dhaka to Gazipur, the last flyover was completed in 12 years. However, road works and import of buses are still pending.

As the time and money of the project increased, so did the suffering of the people. There has also been criticism of environmental pollution due to traffic jams, accidents and dust during the project.

The summary of the BRT project said that if BRT is implemented, 25,000 people will travel every hour through 100 articulated buses. Traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway will be greatly reduced.

The 20.5 km road development of this project is 16 km of Sauze work, including seven flyovers. 5 flyovers under Bangladesh Bridge Authority and two under LGED.
