Most of the fish in the rivers and canals of the Sundarbans lay their eggs during the three months of breeding season from June to August. Fishermen and tourists were not allowed to enter Sundarbans for three months. The ban is lifted from Sunday.
Abu Musa and Safayet Hossain, fishermen of Paikgacha Shanta Bazar area of Khulna, said that after the ban of three months, fish can be caught again in the Sundarbans. I have made all necessary preparations for this. We will enter Sundarbans with pass-permit.
Nazmul Azam David, Secretary of Tour Operators Association of Sundarbans (Toas), said that even if the doors of Sundarbans are opened from September 1, it will not be of much benefit to the tourism traders because now is the off season of tourism. Sundarbans tourism season is from November to March. They suffered a lot of financial losses due to three months of tourism closure. One and a half thousand tourism workers have become unemployed due to loans and bank loans.

Satkhira district representative Ibrahim Khalil said, fishermen, Bauwal and Mauwal are looking forward to enter the Sundarbans for their livelihood. From July 1 to 31, 2,900 BLCs (Boat License Certificates) were issued from four stations in the Satkhira range.

Golam Rabbani, a fisherman of Gabura Union in Satkhira, said that fish and crab fishing in the Sundarbans is closed for about five and a half months of the year. The Fisheries Department closes fishing in the sea for 65 days from May 20 to July 23 every year during the fish breeding season. 86 kg of rice per head is allotted to fishermen who catch fish in the sea during this holiday. However, there is no benefit or allocation for those who earn their livelihood by catching fish and crabs in the rivers and streams of Sundarbans.

Former President of Sundarban Trawler Owners’ Association Anichur Rahman said that more than five hundred trawlers operate in the Satkhira range area of Sundarban depending on the tourists. In Sundarbans, from June to August, fishing and crab fishing are stopped as well as tourist entry. At this time, about 1000 of their trawler drivers and laborers lived unemployed lives. Their family runs very hard and borrows money. If the situation is good, the modern launch service will be started for the tourists coming to this range.

MKM Iqbal Hoshain Chowdhury, Assistant Conservator of Forests of Satkhira Range of Sundarbans, said that fishermen and bawalis will be given entry pass (permission) to Sundarbans from today. The owners of trawlers transporting tourists along with fishermen are preparing for this in advance.

Bagerhat district representative Abu Taleb said that the district, Bawali, Maual and tourists will be able to enter the Sundarbans from Sunday. For this, necessary preparations have been made in tourist spots including Karamjal.

Mongla tour operator. Emadul Hossain said, we have made all kinds of preparations for the tourists. If I get booking, I can enter Sundarbans with tourists from Sunday. The impact of floods in different parts of the country will also affect our Mongla. Because many of those who will come to travel are now affected by the flood. Therefore, it is expected that the number of tourists will be less than last time.

Howladar Azad Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center of Sundarbans said, in order to protect the life of the forest, the protection of wild animals and river-channel fish migration and breeding activities, this year too, all types of entry are prohibited in the Sundarbans for three months from June 1 to August 31. Foresters and tourists will be able to enter the Sundarbans with permission from today as the prohibition period is over. We are ready to provide all kinds of assistance to foresters and tourists.
