Jafor Alam, Cox’s Bazar: 4 out of 5 kidnapped people have been rescued from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. However, one of the kidnapped, identified as Noor, is reportedly still being held hostage.
All of them are involved in agricultural work. Teknaf Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Osman Gani confirmed this information on Saturday (March 23) night. The rescued are Jihan, Rafiq, Shamim and Abdur Rahman. But according to the police, an operation is being underway to rescue another person named Noor.
Osman Gani said, 5 people were abducted from West Pankhali of Teknaf on Thursday morning. Later, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh from the family to release them. Since then, multiple teams of police have launched operation to rescue the 5 farmers.
He also said that finally, 4 out of the 5 abducted persons were rescued from Leda Hill around 12:30 pm on Saturday.
A 25- member kidnapper gang carried weapon each. Their hideout has also been identified. The operation to rescue Noor will continue. 4 people have been taken into police custody.
