Four US-backed fighters were killed and 11 civilians wounded in a Turkish drone strike in northeastern Syria on Friday evening (May 31).
Arab News reported this news about Kurdish-led forces.
A day after the attack on areas held by the US-backed and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Turkey’s president said Turkey would not hesitate to launch operations against Kurdish-led groups in northern Syria if the Kurds go ahead with plans to hold local elections.
Meanwhile, the SDF said that their positions were attacked eight times by Turkish drones.
The attack damaged SDF installations in the northern city of Qamishli and nearby areas, as well as civilian homes and vehicles.
By the way, such attacks by Turkey in northeastern Syria are normal.
Meanwhile, the Kurdish Red Crescent said one of its ambulances was attacked as its paramedics were trying to reach the affected area. The attack took place near the town of Amuda, west of Qamishli.
There was no immediate comment from Turkey.
Meanwhile, the Kurdish-led autonomous administration, which controls northern and eastern Syria, has announced plans to hold municipal elections on June 11.
Voting for the mayoral elections there will be held in Hasakeh, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor province and the eastern part of Aleppo province.
US State Department spokesman Vedanta Patel told X on Friday that, “We do not believe that such an election is necessary in northern Syria at this time.”
Analysts see the comment as a message to the Kurdish-led authorities not to choose.
