488 people were killed and 1850 injured in 337 accidents on roads, railways and waterways during the Eid holiday, Secretary General of Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association said. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury.
He said this while presenting the information on ‘Monitoring Road Accidents on Eid Yatra-2024’ at the Bangladesh Photojournalists Association Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday (June 26).
He said that 458 people were killed and 1840 injured in 309 accidents on the country’s roads and highways during the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Meanwhile, 20 people were killed and 4 injured in 22 railway accidents. 10 people were killed and 6 injured and 6 people are missing in 6 accidents on the waterway. 488 people were killed and 1850 injured in 337 accidents on road, rail and waterways combined. This information has emerged from the monitoring of accidents during the Eid trip.
According to the monitoring report, 15 to 20 percent of people traveled less than the target due to various reasons including the increase in commodity prices and abnormal increase in transport fares this Eid. Due to the continuous development of the current government in the last 15 years, the condition of the country’s roads and highways was much better than before. As there are 3 days of public holidays before Eid, the passenger pressure has been somewhat reduced. About 7 to 9 percent of the total travel on Eid trips in the country is on motorcycles.
According to the report, low-income people are forced to travel in unfit vehicles and open trucks due to road fare anarchy.

According to the observation of Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association, 336 people were killed and 762 injured in 309 road accidents in the last 15 days from the beginning of the Eid trip on June 10 to the return to work after Eid on June 24.
