A total of 5 people, including siblings, drowned in water from morning to noon at separate places in Rangpur.

These incidents took place between 8 am and 2 pm on Wednesday (June 26).

Among them, one person drowned in Mithapukur in the morning, 2 people drowned in Ghaghat river in Payaraband of Mithapukur and 2 people died in Ghaghat river in Bhuraghat area of ​​Rangpur city.

According to the police and local sources, the brother and sister died after going down to bathe in Ghaghat river in Ward No. 15 of Rangpur city. The deceased are Morsalin Ahmed Jim (10) of Anisul in Ghaghtpara area and Arshi Begum (12), daughter of Ratan Mia. The two deceased are cousins. Both the deceased are students of the local North Bengal Ideal School and College. Arshi studied in 6th standard and Jim in 5th standard.

Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rabiul Islam confirmed the matter.

According to local sources, some of them went to bathe in Ghaghat river at noon. After taking a bath, he went to the middle of the river in the current of water and at one point drowned in the water. Later, Rangpur fire service personnel arrived at the spot and rescued them around 3:30 in the afternoon and took them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Meanwhile, two sisters named Aisha Khatun and Ayat Khatun died after drowning in Ghaghat river near Atarokata village of Payaraband union of Mithapukur upazila.

On the other hand, Ershadul Haque’s one-year-old daughter Miftahul Jannat Maisha drowned in the water of the pond near her house at around 9 am in West Barabala area of ​​Mithapukur No. 11 Barabala UP.

Mithapukur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ferdous Wahid confirmed the matter.
