Five members of teacher recruitment question paper leak gang arrested

Despite taking various steps from the ministry, fraud was committed in the government primary school assistant teacher recruitment exam held last month. A few minutes before the start of the exam, the answer sheet has been delivered to the candidates. Cyber and Special Crime (South) Division of the Metropolitan Police (DB) has arrested five members of such a syndicate of question paper leaks using digital devices.

According to DB, the group used to solve the exam questions sitting in Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University (DU).

Among the five arrested, two DU students and three examinees. They are DU students Jyotirmoy Gain (26) and Sujan Chandra Roy (25) and candidates Manish Gain (39), Pankaj Gain (30) and Lovely Mandal (30).

After their arrest, Metropolitan Intelligence Police (DB) Chief Additional Commissioner Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid came to a press briefing at the DB office on Minto Road in the capital on Thursday.

DB Harun said that the third phase of the written examination for the recruitment of assistant teachers of government primary schools was held on March 29. Three and a half lakh examinees from 21 districts of Dhaka and Chittagong participated in this phase. Seven students were detained in Madaripur and one student in Rajbari along with question answer sheets and devices during this examination. In this incident, the concerned filed a case in two districts separately. The examinee who was detained in Rajbari admitted his responsibility in the court and gave a statement under section 164. In the deposition, he told how and when the answer sheet arrived on his mobile phone.

Harun said that most of the candidates who were arrested in Madaripur were released on bail. Superintendent of Police of Madaripur to investigate the incident. On the request of Masood Alam, DB’s Cyber and Special Crime South Division took up the investigation. Jyotirmoy Gain and Sujan Chandra, students of law department of DU, were arrested as members of the gang. Both of them are residential students of DU’s Jagannath Hall. They told the detective police – they got the question to be solved before the exam. Jyotirmoy Gain’s uncle Asim Gain got the responsibility of solving this question. Asim solved the questions with them on the promise of paying 12 to 15 thousand per question. In this proposal, seven people including Jyotirmoy and Sujan sat in room 224 of Jyotirmoyguh Thakurta Bhawan of Jagannath Hall of DHA and solved the question.

DB’s Harun said that Asim has assigned the task of solving the questions to his nephew Jyotirmoy Gain. And Asim started contacting the candidates two to three months before the exam. He used to target candidates especially those who were nearing the end of their working age. He used to contract for Tk 12 to 14 lakhs to make them pass the exam. Asim used to send the answer sheets to the candidates a few minutes before the exam began. 72 to 75 of the questions they solved were correct.

Haroon said, we have remanded two (Asim and Jyotirmoy) in this incident and interrogated them. They have given a confessional statement under section 164 in the court. Those who solved the question, also admitted in court. Those who got the question and took the exam also admitted. An investigation is underway on those involved in the question leak. No one involved will be exempt.
