National Economic Council Approves New Development Budget
Budget Overview
The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved a development budget of Tk 265,000 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25. This budget is slightly higher, by Tk 2,000 crore, than the previous year’s budget.
Meeting Highlights
The approval was granted during the NEC meeting held in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, on Thursday, May 16. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who chairs the NEC, presided over the meeting.
Funding Breakdown
Senior Secretary of the Planning Department, Satyajit Karmakar, outlined the budget details at a press briefing. He stated that Tk 1,65,000 crore will come from government funds, while Tk 1,00,000 crore will be sourced from foreign aid.
Additional Funds
Autonomous institutions will contribute Tk 13,286.19 crore from their own funds, bringing the total size of the new Annual Development Program (ADP) to Tk 278,286.19 crore.
