Foreign Minister Dr. said that the government is making every effort to free both the Bangladeshi flag ship MV Abdullah and the sailors of the ship held hostage by pirates on the coast of Somalia. Hasan Mahmud.
He said these things in response to questions from journalists after the memorial meeting of the late Awami League leaders in Rangunia, Chittagong, on Friday (March 15) evening.
Upazila Awami League organized a memorial meeting and doa mahfil for late Awami League leaders Wakil Ahmad Talukder, Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Kazi Jasim and Nurul Karim Baby Chowdhury at Advocate Nuruchchafa Talukdar Auditorium of Rangunia Municipality.
The foreign minister asked journalists whether the government has taken any initiative to rescue the hostage ship and 23 sailors from the pirates on the coast of Somalia. Hasan Mahmud said, look we are making all efforts, the inter-ministerial meeting was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, and the government is making all efforts to free the ship and its sailors properly through the P&I club.
But we don’t want to say what process we are going through, because it’s not something to make public. But our efforts are to free both the sailors and the ship as soon as possible – said the foreign minister.
Dr. Hasan said, you know, another ship of the same company was hijacked a few years ago in 2010. It took 100 days to release it. Our efforts are not lacking. We are making efforts in various ways, inshallah we hope to be able to rescue the ships and sailors completely properly like in the past.
