The previous committee of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board was dissolved a month ago. The new committee was announced on Sunday (September 15). However, most of the names in the new committee were not liked by film people. Among them, the most criticism is about the producer Ashfaq Nipun. In the face of intense criticism, Ashfaq Nipun finally announced his resignation from the newly formed committee of the Censor Board.

The Bangladesh Film Censor Board was reorganized yesterday after being stagnant for more than a month. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the names of the new board members by issuing a notification yesterday. Producer Ashfaq Nipun was named in this committee of 15 members. He has always been vocal in his demand to abolish the Censor Board and introduce Censor Certification. However, because of his name in the committee of the newly formed Censor Board, severe criticism started. Many were seen opposing the issue by posting on social media.

Finally, Nipun said in a Facebook post at midnight yesterday that he has returned the official membership of the Censor Board. Nipun wrote on Facebook, “The Ministry of Information told me that the Censor Board will be converted into the Censor Certification Board within the next few months. I am forever against Censor Board system in films or industry. I felt very honored that the Ministry considered me worthy to be a member of the Board. But there has been a miscommunication. I have not accepted the official membership of this board. I returned it politely. I have spoken with the Ministry of Information in this regard.

Expressing his position in favor of the cancellation of the Censor Board, Nipun wrote, ‘My position in favor of the cancellation of the Censor Board will always be ongoing. I wish the rest of the members of the newly formed censor board who are my colleagues to cancel their censor board and start a censor certification board or grading system soon.” However, he did not comment on that.

In addition to Ashfaq Nipun, the 15-member censor board has Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju, Khizir Hayat Khan, Tasmia Afrin Mou, Producer and Producer Rafiqul Anwar Russell, Actress Kazi Nowshaba Ahmed. There are also Senior Secretary of Law and Justice Department, Press Secretary of Chief Adviser, Joint Secretary of Public Security Department, Managing Director of BFDC, President of Bangladesh Film Directors Association. The senior secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been made the chairman, and the vice chairman of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board is the member secretary.
