Former Prime Minister Bisher Khasaune submitted his resignation letter to the King on Sunday (September 15) after completing the tenure of the government and cabinet. Within hours of his letter, King Abdullah of Jordan appointed one of his most important advisers, Jafar Hassan, as prime minister.
Prime Minister Zafar Hasan holds a degree from Harvard University, USA. Until now he was an adviser to King Abdullah in the status of a technocrat. His acceptance in the country is also good.
The country’s royal court confirmed his appointment in a statement on Sunday (September 15).
Meanwhile, despite submitting the exemption letter, according to the Jordanian constitution, former Prime Minister Bisher Khassoune will remain as an adviser to the current Prime Minister until the formation of a new cabinet. So he is not completely retiring from government duties now.
Since 1929, a parliamentary system of government has been introduced in Jordan, a country geographically located in the Middle East and West Asia. However, according to the Jordanian constitution, most of the power rests with the king. He has the power to appoint heads of government and dissolve parliament. The King’s opinion is considered final on any government issue.
