Bangladesh Honors its Founding Father in Rome
On 17th March 2024, the Bangladesh Embassy in Rome paid homage to the nation’s revered leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on his 104th birth anniversary. This special day also marked the observance of National Children’s Day 2024, a testament to Bangabandhu’s vision for the youth’s bright future.
Ceremonial Start with National Pride
The day commenced with the embassy’s Ambassador, Mr. Md. Monirul Islam, leading the staff in the ceremonial raising of the national flag, signifying unity and national pride. A poignant tribute followed, with wreaths laid at Bangabandhu’s portrait, honoring his legacy and the sacrifices of all martyrs for the nation.
A Day of Reflection and Education
The celebration featured enriching activities, including a documentary showcasing Bangabandhu’s life and struggles, engaging talk shows, and creative contests for children and teenagers. These events highlighted Bangabandhu’s contributions and dreams for a ‘Golden Bangla’, emphasizing the importance of children’s rights and welfare as established under his leadership in 1974.
Messages of Gratitude and Vision
Throughout the day, messages from distinguished leaders were shared, expressing gratitude towards Bangabandhu’s vision and leadership. The Ambassador shed light on Bangabandhu’s early years and reiterated the current government’s commitment to realizing his dream of a developed Bangladesh. He encouraged the expatriate community to contribute towards this noble goal.
Commemorative Activities and Reflection
The celebration concluded with an Iftar gathering, where a cake commemorating Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary was cut, shared by children, teenagers, expatriate Bangladeshis, and embassy staff. The day ended with prayers for Bangabandhu, his family, and all freedom fighters, honoring their memories and sacrifices for Bangladesh.
