Foreign Minister welcomed the decision to nominate David Slayton Mill as the next US ambassador to Bangladesh. Hasan Mahmud. David Mill was previously Deputy Head of Mission in Dhaka.
He said this in response to questions from journalists at the Foreign Service Academy on Friday (May 10) evening.
Foreign Minister said, we welcome this nomination. We were informed about this a month and a half ago. Now they have made an official announcement. It is hoped that the new ambassador will further the cooperation of the United States with Bangladesh.
In response to a question about human rights in Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud said that human rights in our country are better than many countries. No country in the world has human rights in an ideal position.
Hasan Mahmud said, we are watching the way the US police is suppressing the movement of students on behalf of the Palestinians on the TV screen. We also see how the police are suppressing civil movements on behalf of the Palestinians in various European countries.
He said that all countries should work together for the development of human rights. We also want to work with our development partners to improve human rights.
Incidentally, the nomination of senior diplomat Mills as the next US ambassador to Bangladesh has already been sent to the Senate. After the hearing in the Senate, if Mill is found eligible, only then will the nomination be finalized and he will be sent to Dhaka as an ambassador. If Mill becomes ambassador to Dhaka, he will replace the current ambassador, Peter Haas.
Mill joined the Foreign Service in 1992 as Minister Counsellor. After that, David Mill served in various important positions, including the associate dean of the Leadership and Management School of the Foreign Service Institute of Washington, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Embassy in Dhaka, and the Economic Affairs Advisor in the United States.
