Cyclone Remal has wreaked havoc, destroying 35,000 homes and damaging 115,000 more. Fisheries, livestock, and croplands have been decimated, affecting livelihoods. BRAC estimates a long-term economic loss of BDT 1,500 crore.
BRAC has allocated BDT 7 crore for relief, with BDT 3 crore from its funds and BDT 4 crore from staff salaries. BRAC Bank added BDT 3 crore to the fund, “Dakche Amar Desh.”
The funds will be used for emergency cash support, food packages, and rebuilding homes, water sources, and latrines. BRAC is focusing on immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation.
Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC, urges the community to help. “We need collective efforts for immediate relief and long-term support,” he said.
Selim R. F. Hussain, BRAC Bank’s CEO, emphasized their dedication to social responsibility and collaboration with BRAC to aid affected families.
BRAC prioritizes women-led households, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. Over 23,000 staff and volunteers are on the ground providing emergency support.
