China National Peking Opera Marks Return to Hong Kong After Six Years

Following a hiatus of six years, performances by the China National Peking Opera Company graced the Hong Kong Arts Festival once again from February 24 to the end of the week.

With renowned Peking Opera stars Yu Kuizhi and Li Shengsu at the helm, the ensemble highlighted the elegance and craftsmanship of the two-century-old performance art through timeless classics including The Cosmos Sword, Reconciliation between the General and the Prime Minister, and Escorting Su San to Trial.

Among these, The Cosmos Sword, a masterpiece originally brought to life by the legendary Peking Opera figure Mei Langfang (1894-1961), stands as a pinnacle of Mei’s celebrated works.
