Disaster risk reduction will ensure sustainable development

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief. Mohibbur Rahman said that sustainable development will be ensured by adopting integrated activities in disaster risk reduction.

He said, moving away from the concept of post-disaster relief and rehabilitation activities, the government is working on a paradigm shift in pre-disaster preparation, disaster protection and post-disaster reconstruction.
He said this in the chief guest speech at the function organized on the occasion of National Disaster Preparedness Day-2024 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Sunday (March 10).
This year the theme of the day was ‘fight disaster preparedness, build smart Bangladesh’.
Mohibbur Rahman said that the government is working to make the public at all levels capable of dealing with disasters. Initiatives should be taken to provide incentives to those related to disasters including purchase of modern equipment to deal with disasters.

Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. Director General of Disaster Management Directorate Mizanur Rahman, representatives of United Nations agencies, representatives of military and fire service and civil defense and representatives of Cyclone Preparedness Program (CPP), representatives of local and international non-governmental organizations were present in the program under the chairmanship of Kamrul Hasan.

In the event, awards were given to those selected for their outstanding contribution in dealing with disasters at the local level.
