Google Maps is taking steps to increase transparency by introducing a new tool that flags businesses with fake reviews. Currently available in the US and UK, this feature is expected to expand globally, including in Bangladesh. The feature notifies users when a business has had fake reviews removed, ensuring more accurate feedback for those searching for local businesses.
Enhancing Review Authenticity
The new feature aims to help users spot businesses involved in fake review activity. When a business violates Google’s Fake Engagement Policy, its profile will display a warning that reads: “Suspected fake reviews were recently removed from this place.” This ensures users can make better-informed decisions based on legitimate reviews.
Global Rollout and Bangladesh Launch
While the tool has already been rolled out in certain regions, it is expected to reach Bangladesh soon. This is crucial for local consumers who rely heavily on online reviews when choosing businesses. Once launched, Bangladeshi users will benefit from improved transparency and the ability to report fake reviews directly through Google Maps
Reporting Fake Reviews
Users can easily report suspicious reviews by selecting the business’s profile, tapping the three dots in the corner, and choosing “Report,” followed by “Fake or misleading content.” This process helps maintain the integrity of Google Maps as a reliable source for business information
As this feature continues to expand, it will provide a more trustworthy experience for users across Bangladesh, ensuring that businesses are held accountable for their online presence.
