Bangladesh’s Law Minister, Anisul Huq, issued a stern warning on Tuesday to individuals engaging in the hoarding of essential items, stating that they would face legal actions under the Special Powers Act. During a discussion with journalists following an event, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining market stability and warned against any attempts to disrupt it through hoarding practices. He further instructed District Commissioners to expedite the processing of cases brought by mobile courts and appealed for their assistance in addressing the backlog of legal cases.
In response to inquiries regarding the Prime Minister’s instructions to combat illegal hoarding activities, Anisul Huq reiterated that the Prime Minister has explicitly demanded immediate actions against such practices. He highlighted that the Special Powers Act, established in 1974, would serve as the legal basis for taking action against those found guilty of hoarding.
