James Anderson became the third bowler in Test cricket history to reach the milestone of 700 wickets. Only two bowlers have achieved this feat before, namely Australia’s Shane Warne and Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan.
Both Warne and Muralitharan were spinners. Anderson became the first pacer in this list of achievements. The 41-year-old English pacer created this unique record in red ball cricket by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav in the fifth and final match of the Test series against India today (Saturday) at Dharamshala.
Anderson had 698 wickets in 186 Test matches before dropping out in the Dharamshala Test. Only two wickets were needed to enter the elite club of 700 wickets. Anderson took a wicket on the second day of the Dharamshala Test. Then today at the very beginning of the third day, this right-arm pacer took another wicket.
Muttiah Muralitharan is on top of this list with 800 wickets and Shane Warne is second with 708 wickets. Anderson will also surpass the late legend if he takes 9 wickets.
