Chinese Giant Pours $27.8M into Bangladesh for Sock Production
In a landmark move for Bangladesh’s manufacturing sector, Dongfang Knitting (BD) Co. Ltd., a leading Chinese firm, announced a substantial $27.8 million investment to establish a sock manufacturing plant in the BEPZA Economic Zone (EZ), situated in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, Mirsharai, Chattogram.
A Strategic Partnership Unfolds
The investment deal was sealed today in Dhaka, with BEPZA’s Executive Chairman, Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, overseeing the signing ceremony. Representing BEPZA, Ali Reza Mazid, Member (Investment Promotion), and from Dongfang Knitting, Managing Director Fang Zhendong, inked the agreement, setting the stage for a new era in Bangladesh’s export manufacturing landscape.
Impacting Local Employment and Production
Dongfang Knitting’s entrance into the BEPZA EZ is not just an investment in infrastructure but a boon for local employment, promising to create over 5,000 jobs for Bangladeshi workers. The facility aims to produce a staggering 216 million pairs of socks annually, catering to men, women, and children worldwide.

BEPZA’s leadership expressed a hearty welcome to Dongfang Knitting, commending the company’s choice of BEPZA EZ for their groundbreaking project. The Executive Chairman voiced his optimism for a swift start to construction and production phases, assuring full support from BEPZA for the project’s success.
The signing ceremony was a convergence of key BEPZA members, including Engineering, Finance, Administration, Investment Promotion, and Public Relations, alongside Dongfang Knitting representatives, marking a significant step forward in strengthening Bangladesh’s industrial sector.
