The Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (ICT) is on its way to becoming a lucrative venture, according to Salman Fazlur Rahman, the Adviser on Private Industry and Investment to the Prime Minister. During his visit to the terminal on Saturday morning to assess its operations, Rahman announced comprehensive plans to enhance its profitability, with a focus on augmenting river-based cargo activities.
Accompanied by key governmental figures, including the Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, and State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Rahman discussed the potential for increasing the terminal’s efficiency and solving its operational challenges within a month. These efforts are anticipated to boost cargo volume, subsequently providing more employment opportunities for dock workers.
Rahman’s visit highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the terminal attracts more container traffic, offering assurances to tackle any emerging challenges swiftly. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster economic growth and attract foreign investment, evidenced by the interest from South African entrepreneurs in Bangladesh’s burgeoning jewellery sector. With determined governmental support, the future looks promising for the Pangaon Terminal as it navigates towards enhanced productivity and profitability.
